Yoga for Busy People (Wednesdays 12:00 pm)

This class is for you if you want to try yoga (beginners are welcome) but find it challenging to carve out time for exercise and relaxation after work. During lunch hour over seven weks, we will learn fundamental yogal postures and progress to more creative sequences of movement. The instructor will introduce you to different aspects of yoga (not just physical exercise), including correct breathing, posture alignment and mindfulness. This class assumes no prior yoga experience, but posture modifications and advanced practice options will be offered to seasoned students who want to join. The goal is to break up the monotony of your work day, reset your energy level at lunch, correct for some common physical misalignments (like back or shoulder pain) from working at a desk all the time...and have some fun!

Yoga for Relaxation (Tuesdays 5:15 pm)

Most of our days are spent in "active mode". Our brains are "switched on." When it comes time to shift gears at the end of the day, many of us choose active exercise. We run, bike, play team sports..all high-energy activities that require us to stay "on". Even when we think we're de-stressing or relaxing, like taking a yoga class, we tend to do active, yang (as in Yin Yang), muscle-contracting yoga practices. To help balance things out, this class is focused on muscle-lengthening, passive, yin yoga postures. You will learn to "switch-off," to relax the muscles, open up the joints, and mute the rational mind. Over time, you may find that learning to "switch on and switch off" enhances your mind and body's performance in both states. You may also find that learning to relax and lengthen are by no means "easy". No prior experience with yoga is required and students who consider themselves "inflexible" or "hyper-active" are especially encouraged to join. Led by Qi Zhai

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

iDiet (web based weight loss program)

For anyone tired of fad diets, Community Wellness is delighted to offer a science based online weight loss program. Developed by Dr. Susan Roberts of Tufts University, the iDiet incorporates psychology, nutrition, habit changing, and neurobiology to achieve results far above average. In fact, a controlled clinical trial published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition demonstrated six times the weight loss typically achieved in similar programs. Another recent study, as reported by the NBC "Today" Show, found evidence that the iDiet re-wires participants' brains to crave the types of healthy foods that aid in weight loss. iDiet recently helped employees at the Boston Museum of Science lose a combined 750 pounds -- without additional exercise (see http://bit.ly/iDietwcvb2 for more information). It is now available through Community Wellness at MIT Medical.

• The classes are online and meet for eight weeks.

• The classes begin January 26th, 2015 and end on March 6th, 2015.

• You can choose between a class at 12:00pm or a class at 4:00pm.

• The cost is $150.00.
