Wellness Classes

Our classes are offered in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere with knowledgeable instructors. Classes are kept small and suitable for all levels of experience.


Summer 2012 registration:

  1. Click the “register” button beneath the class you’d like to register for, complete the form on the following page, and click the “register” button on that page. If you wish to register for more than one class, you must register separately for each one.

  2. You will then be directed to our secure online credit card payment site. Once your payment has been processed you will receive a confirmation email. Checks and cash are not accepted.

  3. Your registration is not confirmed until you receive the payment confirmation email from us.

Class minimums must be met for classes to run. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. A 100% refund will be offered to those who withdraw at least one week prior to the start of a class. After that time, refunds will only be given under special circumstances.

Gentle Yoga (Monday)

Gentle yoga is open to all levels, including beginners. The class incorporates a variety of body/mind modalities with the goal of encouraging body awareness and body confidence. Students are guided to move through yoga sequences with a sense of flow and ease. The class will stretch you out from head to toe and leave you feeling centered and relaxed. This 5-week program teaches participants how to use their innate resources and abilities to respond more effectively to stress, pain and illness. The program includes guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices, gentle stretching and mindful yoga, group dialogue and daily home assignments. Research indicates that mindfulness practices can be highly effective in a wide variety of ways including lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms, greater energy and enthusiasm for life, and improved self-esteem. Come join us to learn how to decrease your stress by applying mindfulness to your everyday life! Led by Ashley Norwood in E23-319.

Moderate Flow Yoga

This class series will focus on the yoking (as in yug, the Sanskrit root of the word Yoga) the relationship between breath and movement that is core to Vinyasa Yoga forms. We will flow through pose sequences spontaneously as class energies/participants evoke them, once everyone is familiar with basic forms. This class requires a moderate level of fitness. Slow Yoga / Thai Yoga

Slow Yoga/Thai Yoga is a restorative class where you will practice very slow vinyasa (flowing Yoga moves) in supported positions (no standing poses). Instructor Portia Brockway will move around the room and guide participants hands-on through special Thai Yoga stretches. Sounder Sleep

The Sounder sleep Sytem uses synchronized movements and breathing techniques called mini-moves that relax your body, calm your mind, and lull you into blissful, restorative slumber. If you wake up during the night, the mini-moves get you right back to sleep. During the day, the mini-moves quickly conteract the effects of stress and tension, bringing you greater mental and physical ease and promoting peak performance. Tai Chi for Strength and Balance

When it comes to removing some of the physical and mental tensions we experience in our daily lives, slow is the new fast! Tai chi is meditation in motion, the practice of moving tension-less and calm. Class participants will learn Yang Style Tai Chi Eight Movement Form, an easy-to-learn, introductory set of tai chi hand techniques, stances and footwork. Work In Fitness for Women

Like Work In Fitness™, Work In Fitness For Women™ is an exercise conditioning class that helps improve overall strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance while fortifying specific areas that are challenged by long hours of sitting in a passive work environment: neck, shoulders, abdominals, lower back, hamstrings and hip flexors. Class incorporates Chinese Kung Fu and Chi K'ung exercises supplemented with upper body strength training, mat work for core conditioning and additional bone strengthening exercises to help reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes. Weights and floor mats provided. Led by Dorri Li. This class is 45 minutes in length.

Alleviate office fatigue while improving overall conditioning.

Basic exercises will work and stretch all major muscle groups, providing a refreshing break for your body and mind. Level 1 offers a more gradual approach to the material and is ideal for individuals who need a little more support in terms of modifications, props and guidance.
